My GPS took me on a winding route through little neighborhoods of houses beat up by the hurricane. The GPS routes are certainly ways I would never experience
with a map and directions. In fact, with a map and directions I doubt I would have located this little casino.

As it was the GPS said I had reached my destination and all I could see was deserted waterfront and the remnants of an old waterslide.

So I called the Silverslipper.

Yes, the route to the Silver Slipper is quite an experience, one can certainly still imagine (or not, as it probably is impossible to imagine the horror unless
one truly was there...) with what devastating force Katrina hit the coast. From the distance, once the place can finally be spotted it always reminds of a
power plant of sorts.

Throughout Katrina the water went as high as the TOP OF THE ESCALATOR !!! (which is a VERY steep one, and I would estimate that it...

The "Silver Slipper" is well worth the visit, if you have time. It's about a 40 minute drive along the coast from the Island View, if memory
serves. It's kinda "comfy, homey", and the Buffet is really quite good! They usually offer a "free video poker" tourney in the
evenings, as well. (Fridays) It's a great "afternoon trip", but, again, no hotel on property. There's "Live" Keno, if that's
your thing too!

Charles T might be right, but I think the old President/Golden Shore casino was washed across Beach Blvd in the Katrina Hurricane. I think the Silver Slipper
is a 'new' casino with only one floor. I remember the buffet as having the best 'cajun' style selection on the Gulf Coast. I do not see how
this casino survives. It is really in the middle of nowhere and the drive there is long and depressing (massive Katrina damage still evident).
