Mignon's
We actually went to the Palace to burn some comps and Mignon's was to be tried. Opens at five and we arrived at the bar in front of the restaurant at ten till. Wifey gets an Orange Crush Martini. Half price happy hour! A three dollar martini that sweetie adores. Nothing for me thank you I'm a driving home tonight. The bar menu is touting gulf coast oysters any way you want them.
I NEED a couple dozen raw! I see many preparations that look delish but I NEED em raw! Maître d'says they only offer oysters at the bar. I said I see no oyster bar so where are they shucked?
"In the restaurant Sir"
Brilliant, shuck em, bring em through the restaurant but don't dare stop and let a patron eat them except at the outside bar.
"Sir, do I need to call security?"
I'm just joshing, actually he was helpful. We had two dozen RAW Apalachicola on the half shell with two Martinis for wifey. We then transferred the bill to the inside for a lookie lou at the Mignon's restaurant.
Very Nice! Dark entrance, a water wall ahead, then right turn towards a bank of windows that bring up the light as you approach. We sat right on the window looking out on a working marina and the pool. Mike and Mary could take the boat up the intercostals' to Biloxi and park at the Palace. They have an outside dockside terrace but we passed on outside seating as rain threatened.
Place was empty and it was five fifteen. Early bird special caught our eye. Appetizer, entrée, and dessert, thirty bucks. Wednesday thru Sat five to six thirty.
Service was excellent. We both ordered the crab cake appetizers. It came with a fantastic presentation, Three inch round cake 99.9% fresh lump blue crab served on a square plate and decorated with red and green sauce written onto the plate with a squeeze bottle in an appealing pattern. Dollop of remoulade on top. Maybe the best crab cake on the gulf coast. It could be argued!! Very fine indeed!
Second course was a six ounce fillet with a fried soft shell crab riding atop rodeo style.
Again the presentation was fun with the crab atop the beef and red, green peppers and squash julienne arranged as if the crab cowboy was in an arena of grass.
Me and wifey like soft shell crabs fried, our last reason to go to New Orleans! Bye Bye New Orleans!
Fillet was not outstanding but it was well presented. Crab was excellent.
Dessert was a muffin sized bread pudding, in a puddle of caramel praline sauce.
Service was first-class; food was very good and well presented. Price was excellent.
Two Orange Crush Martinis, two dozen raw, two early bird specials, one double espresso.
One hundred dollars on the nose. We drank water as usual.
