Since it's a 10-hour trip for me (not counting stops), I'm lucky to get there once a year. I've stayed at the Beau 5 or 6 times and enjoy it. Amazingly, I've never eaten at Mary Mahoney's although I've heard a lot about it. My friend and I plan to eat lunch there one day, and I don't want to waste my time and money on something not absolutely delicious. How about some favorite ideas for appetizers and desserts? If there's an item you must eat each visit, please let me know. The same goes for Emeril's at the Island View (lunch again) and Memphis Q and other places in the Beau. We won't do fine dining this trip. I have food credit at the Beau and need to make it go as far as it can since I'll be sharing with my friend. Oh, another question...my friend has to use a wheelchair for longer distances. Will I be able to "wheel" her to Hard Rock and to Mary Mahoney's? Last year I wheeled her around the French Quarter in New Orleans, and it was quite difficult on those cobblestone streets. If you see a fair, fluffy, fabulous, "60 is the new 40" female pushing a wheelchair at the Beau from May 27 - June 1, give me a shout. I'll be at the VP machines....constantly. Happy gambling, Judy

I think they run about $14.95 and include a salad entree and dessert. I like their crab and shrimp au gratin like dish. The dessert I always get is their bread pudding. http://www.marymahoneys.com/lunch.html I would think making that trip in a wheelchair either to hard Rock or May Mahoney's would take a bit but is doable. The worst part might be coming back up the incline to the Beau front entrance. (There may be a route to avoid that which would be somewaht longer.) I wonder if the Beau has those scooter things for rent.

However, I must confess I was thrilled when I found out I could rent a scooter for her and she could have the freedom to go where she wanted. Back then - this has been over five years ago - you could rent the scooters for $25 a day and they would have it waiting when we got to the hotel. Can't remember the name of the company, but I'm sure you could find it online or call the hotel and they can give you the names of the companies that deliver them to the hotel. I see so many of them at the Beau, they may now have them available. I know before we began using the scooters, the hotels always had wheelchairs for us to use. Good luck. I know you're going to have a great time. I've had the filet and prime rib at the Memphis Q at the Beau and both were delicious. My friend had some kind of fish last trip there - can't remember what it was - but she said it was the best she'd ever eaten. My husband likes their ribs. I don't think I've ever heard anyone who said they didn't like the food there. The Hard Rock Cafe has excellent ribs, but the Vibe at Hard Rock is my favorite - even over Ruth Cris. I know you said you didn't want to do fine dining, but the prices aren't too bad. I've been fortunate to have mine comped, so I unfortunately don't remember the prices. We'll be looking for a great trip report on your return. Linda

I'm taking notes and plan to use your suggestions. I'll suggest to my friend that she rent a scooter; I think that's what I'd do if I needed one, but chances are she'd prefer I push her -ha. Flyguy, I may have remembered a report of yours about Mary Mahoney's in which you suggested the shrimp/crab dish and the bread pudding. I knew some people had voiced their opinions on certain delicious dishes but couldn't remember who or what. Again, thanks a lot for responding. Anyone else with other suggestions? I'll be happy to have them. Judy

I think it would come close to feeding two people if you and your friend wanted to share. Doing that might even leave room for desert.

The Coast restaurant at the Beau has a great Ribeye Sandwich. If you eat at Emerils, save some room or dessert. You could probably share with your friend because they are huge. My mom and I shared a slice of Emeril's famous banana creme pie and we couldn't finish it. Judy, I will send you my cell phone number because I will be at the Beau at the same time as you. Mike is the dude name, great service. I always rent a scooter for momma. It allows me to wander more. Memphis Q has great bread. If they have the two-fer prime rib it is excellent and a great value. Try a cinnamon roll at the coffee bean.

I can tell you that if you and your friend want to eat in the Memphis Q, try spliting a meal. We ordered baby back ribs (Mike ordered a whole portion and I ordered a 1/2 portion. We both had to leave over half the meal behind. Their portions are huge. Don't know how long you are there, and I know you play VP, but don't be afraid to ask for the food you want at the Player's Club. Have a great time. We did. Mary
