I worked very late Wednesday, and dear hubby works nights, he left work at 4:00 am so niether one of had any sleep. Still very excited. Left Charlotte Thursday barely made flight, then almost missed connection in Atlanta as hubby just had to stop in the smoking room. Luggage and car rental no problems. We were so late getting to the Charlotte airport and had such a tight connection in Atlanta that we had not eaten since dinner Wednesday. It was lunch time in Biloxi so we decided to try Little Ray's in Gulfport. A local spot that had good reviews for seafood. I had the Shrimp poboy, hubby had the seafood platter. It was okay, nothing special and would not make a special trip. Staff was very friendly and the price was good. Off to the casino, first stop Treasure Bay. Now I will admit something I know a lot of people do not approve of double booking. We were comped Thursday-Sunday at the Grand also used a comp for Treasure Bay for Thursday night. Check in, play at little no major wins or losses. Off to the Grand, checked in and dropped all but carryon luggage. Did not even make it to the casino, back to Treasure Bay. The reason for the double booking was MIL decided to fly in at the 9:00 am on Friday and we wanted to be closer to the airport. Good plan as we stayed up until about 2:00 am playing everything Treasure Bay had to offer. Hubby fell in love with Wizard of Oz. Had a midnight snack at the Den, TB's only 24 hour eatery. Food was okay, service was very slow.
Day Two:
Up at 7:30 am, shower, check out, get to the airport right at 9:00 am; MIL plane 45 minutes late. All of us were starving so had a great breakfast at Waffle House. Next stop Island View. This was our first visit to the View, we loved it. Played for several hours, earned enteries into a drawing they were having at 11:00 pm. Left the View went to Grand got MIL settled in and played for a while before having the buffet for dinner. Not bad, not great. I will admit, I am not a big fan of buffets, MIL loved it. Played at the Grand for a couple of more hours. MIL went to bed, Hubby and I went back to the View to see how much we won in the drawing? Think postive, right? What do you know, won $100.00 in free play. Could not use it all that night, though we tried. Back to the Grand, off to bed.
Day Three:
Leave Grand around 9:30 head off to Waffle House, notice a trend? Next up IP, Hubby and I sign up for the Players Club, MIL off to use some free play. Loved the penny Top Dollar machines. Quick tour through Boomtown. Strange floorplan, one side has to much open floor, the other side so crowded you can barely move around. Next stop Beau, very crowded, very beautiful. After donating to IP and Boomtown, held our own at Beau. Time for dinner at another local spot, McElroys in Ocean Springs. Hubby had Seafood Platter with fried oyster, shrimp, scallops, fish and a fried crab cake; MIL had the special of the day the sauted crab cakes, I had the fried shrimp. Food cooked perfectly, fair size portions, friendly staff, a little overpriced. The crabcake special includied bits of shell. Stopped at the Isle of Capri to use some free play, four hours later, back to Grand. Played until could barely remember room number.
Day Four:
As a change of pace had the breakfast buffet at the Grand; played a little. Off the the View quickly went through rest of freeplay and made generous donations to their bottom line. Hubby found a penny Money Storm machine he played on for hours. I floated around won a little, lost a lot but had a great time doing it. MIL complained it was very crowded. What do you expect on a holiday weekend? Went back to TB; MIL loves the three card table there. Had lots of comps here so we tried the buffet. My only advice here is SKIP IT. Not much selection, forget hot, best you can hope for is not ice cold. Rest of the night at Grand.
Day Five:
We fly out at 5:00 pm. Slept in. checked out around noon. Off to the Waffle House again. MIL wanted to hit that TB 3 card table one more time. After an hour at TB stopped for an hour or so at the View. Easy flight home.
Wrap up:
Can't wait to do it again. We are booked at the end of July for the slot tourney at the Grand. May the luck of the RebelDiceMan be with us. Would love to go to Vegas for the Millioniare Maker Tourney. Spent more than we planned, but not more than we took. Definitely feel more comfortable in Biloxi than Vegas these days. We go to play and have fun, not for the club scene. We also appreciate that the people in Biloxi both staff and patrons seem friendlier and more relaxed that their counterparts in Vegas. Not to mention our old, over-weight bodies perfer a 2 hour flight vs. a five hour flight. Comps also seem much easier in Biloxi. We have received offers of free play and rooms everywhere we have visited except the Beau. Considering that we are still very new to Biloxi and still trying to figure out where we want to base most of our play it is surprising. The Grand will probably will always be a top choice just because our home casino is Cherokee and so most of our play is with Harrahs.
Please forgive the format and the typos. Just pulled out the luggage to throw in the July offers and found the notes from the May trip.
