Hey Folks I need your advice please.
Jim and I are thinking about going to Vegas in October for the AARP convention. The only places we've stayed when there were the Monte Carlo or downtown.
In order to make this trip affordable we need to stay at a Harrah's property since we're diamonds. We have a choice of Harrahs/ IP/ Rio Suites/ Paris/
Ballys/ Caesers/ and I guess any other Harrahs there.
Please help us by telling us where you've stayed and if you liked it enough to return or not.
We will certainly appreciate any and all feed back.

Oops....forgot to mention that the actual convention is being held at the Sands hotel so distance could be a factor without a car.

Its been years since we were out there but we stayed at Harrah's the last two times we were there. Its right in the center of the strip, across the street
from Caesars and Mirage. I would imagine that Caesars is a lot nicer.
I do not know where the Sands Hotel is. The old Sands was imploded. That would have been convenient. |

Check again to see where the convention is being held, as the old Sands Hotel is no longer there. I think the Venetian is where the Sands was. I have stayed at Caesars, Harrah's, Bally's, Flamingo, Paris and Imperial Palace, all Harrah's properties. I did not like the rooms at Imperial Palace, but all the rest were fine. Of course it's been a number of years and I don't know if they have kept them updated. The rooms at Caesars two years ago were still nice. I've never stayed at Rio, but it's not on the strip and you'd have to catch a cab or rent a car to get around. All the other hotels are on the strip and you can walk or ride the tram or monorail from location to location, if necessary. Hope y'all have a great time. Linda |

Like Charles said, the Sands Hotel was imploded several years ago, so first try to find out where the convention is. The Sands Corporation owns the Venetian, so perhaps it is being held there. I've stayed at Paris several times and love the rooms there but don't like the gambling there as much. I have stayed at Bally's and the rooms are nice, but the bathrooms aren't as fancy as the Paris Hotel. I have also stayed at Harrah's and if you are Diamond, you can usually get a nicer room there. I like the Carnival Tower best. What I like about Harrah's is you are close to other casinos such as Venetian, Mirage, TI. I have never stayed at Caesar's Palace but I don't care to gamble much there. I would not stay at the IP. The Rio is not on the Strip. The next time I go to Las Vegas, I'll probably stay at Paris or Harrah's. One day I would like to attend the AARP Convention. |

I just looked it up, it appears that the AARP convention is going to be at the Sands Convention Center, and if Google Maps is correct thats close to
where the old Sands use to be. Its real close to Harrahs and Caesars.

I looked it up too, and it is next to the Venetian casino. This means it is near Harrah's, so I would stay there if you want to be within walking
distance.

Mary, that's where I would stay and I would duck into the Casino Royal and get me a cheap beer on the way back to the room!

Since the convention is being held at the Sands convention center, Harrah's or Flamingo would be close for you. The monorail runs on that side of the
strip, so you can catch that. It has a stop at the convention center.
When we were Diamond members with Harrah's, we stayed at Paris. It is my favorite Harrah's property in Vegas for several reasons. Nice location, nice choice of dining and really nice rooms. It is also attached via walkway to Bally's, so you don't have to go outside to the strip to get there. I believe the monorail also has a station at Bally's. I would not stay at the IP for any reason. I don't care if the room is free, the IP is SCARY. |

Hey you all,
You're all Aces!!!! Thanks so much for all the helpful advice....and for straightening me out about the Sands! Guess I need to slow down when I read...LOL We have not been to Vegas since 2003 and then I tagged along on a business seminar that Jim had to attend at the Monte Carlo. We're shopping airfare right now to see what we can do with that. Harrahs is offering $150 toward travel expenses but no free flights at this time.....at least not for us. FL Mary: the convention is planned for Orlando next year, so maybe you'll get to go then. We have never attended before but the speakers and entertainment this year are just over the top. Besides which we thought everything was very reasonable in cost including $25 for the registration fee. Best to all, June |

For years we stayed at least 2-3 days of every LV trip at The RIO. We still thoroughly enjoy that property but on our last few visits we have been splitting
our time between Caesars and Paris. We really like both of those properties too. Caesars has the best pool in the HET empire and one of my favorite bars
(Shadow Bar). I like The RIO casino floor the best of the HET properties. Having drinks on the VooDoo Lounge outdoor patio at dusk is something we do every
trip and one of the two must-do things we recommend to friends going to LV. Paris has the best VP bar (Gustav's) and the best strip location in my
opinion. You can eat on the patio at Mon Ami Gabi and enjoy the Bellagio fountains across the street. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those
three properties.

June -- Caesar's is "hands down" the nicest of the Harrah properties in Las Vegas and it's an easy walk to the Venetian/Palazzo hotels with
the Sands Convention Center at the back of them. Weather should be nice for walking in October, By the way, sign up for a player's card at the
Venetian/Palazzo -- show them your Diamond card, and you will be immediately upgraded to their highest level player's card with all the associated perks.

I was in Vegas in May and stayed at TI &Rio. Loved the room at the Rio. Would be a cab ride to the convention center but would be worth it for me.

June... I'm another vote for Ceasars out all the Harrahs properties and just so you know, you were correct, it "is" still called the SANDS
convention Center even though it's owned by the guy how owns the Venetian and the newer Palaazo. It's not a bad walk from Ceasars depending how hot it
is and how well a person gets around but even if you had to cab it, you're talking less than $10. Good luck and have a great trip! - Dino
