I've been gambling since the DAY I turned 21 (which was 6 years ago). The first machine I ever played was at Isle of Capri in Sulphur, LA. It was a nickle machine, an egg hatching game of some kind - can't remember the exact name. I put in $10 and hit max bet (without realizing what that meant exactly). I was lucky enough to hit the bonus round on my first spin, which paid me $203!! It was really exciting for me and I've been hooked ever since. I typically play in Lake Charles and Kinder, LA. All slots and some VP. I also love Keno but can only play live when I'm in Vegas... The first time I ever visited Biloxi was almost 8 years ago when I was only 19. I traveled over from LA (where I was living/going to college at the time) with my Aunt to attend a hair show at the convention center in Biloxi. Of course I was under age and unable to go inside the casino, but my days were spent shopping around for antiques and looking at all the casinos (and beautiful homes) in amazment. Living in the city makes you appreciate the beauty of such things I guess... I told myself I once I was of age, I would travel back with friends to play in all the casinos... It wasn't until April of this year that I went back to Biloxi. Of course it was much different than I remember, due to all the devestation from Katrina. Very sad... The hotel I chose to stay at was the IP. It was very nice and comfortable, I loved the casino. I stayed 3 days and loved every minue of it. I actually only left the casino once to go over the The Grand (which I did not care for much). The trip didn't seem to last long enough for me - soooo... When my October mailer came, I was surprised to see increased free play and an additional comp night - so I made reservations for the last week of October!! I will be there for five days and plan to visit each casino, esepcially the Island View which I think looks beautiful online and have heard people say good things about... I also want to shop in any local antique malls/shops. I still need a few pieces of furniture to complete the last room in our house. If any local people know of any good places, please let me know. I will be on a 12 day vacation and will have plenty of leisure time in between gambling. In fact if I can at least stay even or hopefully ahead just a bit (like my last trip in April), I will probably extend my stay by a day or two. Anyway - sorry for the long post, it's nice to read stories from all of you who love gamgling just as much as I do. I've had enough of Vegas and plan to visit Biloxi a lot more. Oh and I have a trip report for Saturday, short and not too entertaining but I love reading those so I thought I would contribute. Also - for gambling veterans - WHAT IS A STANDARD TIP AMOUNT WHEN YOU GET A HAND PAY??????? I've only had a few hand pays over the years and never know etiquette, so I usually end up giving the attendant $100. OK - now I think I'm done. =)

We love to read about our members experiences, good and bad. I have only got a hand pay once (before tickets) for $600 on a 5 coin max nickel machine. I gave the slot person $20. Don't know if that was good or bad. I also love the IP and stay there on my 4 to 5 trips a year.

As in most of everything in life.. do it in moderation.. as far as the standard tip or toke amount for a hand-pay attendant..well.. the normal 15% for things like taxi's, food service and other service industry folks goes out the window, as far as I'm concerned. First of all, in my opinion, these are not "service" people. I know I;m probably going to get some 'heat' from these comments, but times have changed in the casino business since the old "hopper-fill" and real hand-pay days. Those girls really did some hustling. Since the advent of the TITO (ticket in/ticket out) voucher system, which normally will pay up to the W2-G limitations, these people are normally used nowadays as an attendant to "serve you" with a W2-G for you to include with your federal income tax to Uncle Sammy. You will probably have "several" people show up with your money. 1. hand-pay attendant. 2. another hand-pay attendant (just his/her buddy) and 3. a security guy/gal.. 4. if the payout is a "good-one", maybe even a suit will accompany the attendant. How and who do you pay?? It becomes sort of awkward to hand each one something or to say "here, split this". I say, if you feel impelled, a $20 tip is adequate or 1% of anything over $2000. Normally a service person, whom we expect to tip, is one who receives an hourly wage of less then minimum wages and expects to suppliment the income with tips, for good or exemplenary service. I don;t think that "hand-pay attendants" are in that catagory.. thats my $.02 worth. Good Luck in your future Biloxi visits..

Posts: 642 (09/29/09 19:45:13) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	TwoHs: I am with you all the way, plus I have to add my 2cents: with the losses that I have (and still am running up...) at the casinos, I have no desire to make any sort of large tips when a 'hand pay' is issued to me, though I did give a lady 20bucks the last time I 'won' $ 1800. Actually I never exactly jump out of my chair when I have a 'hand pay', as the first thought always comes to mind: here goes our Social Security...it's going to go into max taxation, again.... I think the day that I am going to 'make up' my overall losses at casios, which by now would be at least 250 'thou' +++, that's the day when I will leave a nice tip...so, I hope none of the attendents are holding their breath........ I read an article about tiping the attendants once and of course I don't know where or who wrote it but anyway they said about $20.00. It certainly wasn't a 10 or 15% thing.

Anything smaller, I usually give $20 to each attendant (there are always two). In Cherokee where you get a W2G for anything over $600, I usually just give them $5. My problem with tips is for limo service to and from the airport. The casino pays for my airfare and limo, and I give the driver $20 if it is just me. But if my husband or a friend is with me, I'm never sure what is the right thing to do. I could rent a car for what the tip usually runs me, I'm sure. But like next week, there will be five of us with five suitcases. How much tip should we give the driver? Any suggestions? We are renting a car, but not till we get to the Beau and renting it from there. Oops, sorry I got off track, Jason. Welcome to the Board. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Linda

All the attendents do is get your winnings and give it to you. Nothing out of their job description. Why would I gave them a tip !!!

Besides giving them a few bucks might do them some good, all I would do is throw it away in a machine in just a few pushes of the button.

About tipping, I always tip when I get a W2G win. Usually $20-40 on a $1200 up to $4000 win, but the most I have tipped is $100 on a $10,000 win. I don't see tipping anymore than that. As Charles stated, I do believe it is good karma to tip when you win a jackpot.

I've had one large handpay and tipped $100, but smaller ones I was unsure if $20ish was too little. Waiting tables (receiving tips) put me through college, so I've always been big on tipping.
